North-east from Spiers House along forest tracks to Muffles Rigg, then north to Owlet Moor and north-west to the minor road on Hamer Moor. South-west over Northdale Rigg to drop down into Northdale, then south via footpaths and bridleways to Rosedale Abbey. South-east out of the village following Alder Carr Lane to Yatts Farm, before heading over to Low Muffles on woodland paths and tracks and finally back to the starting point by way of Spiers Bank. A 14-mile walk in the North York Moors.

The best map to use on this walk is the Ordnance Survey map of the North York Moors Eastern Area, reference OS Explorer OL27, scale 1:25,000. It clearly displays footpaths, rights of way, open access land and vegetation on the ground, making it ideal for walking, running and hiking. The map can be purchased from Amazon in either a standard, paper version or a weatherproof, laminated version, as shown below.

Lynn and Angy emerging from Gates Plantation after the climb from Pry Hills Lane. Unfortunately I couldn’t take any further photographs due to heavy rain, but it was still a great walk.
